Zero Tolerance Policy

It is the intention of Southpoint Minor Hockey for everyone, Players, Parents, and Fans to be able to enjoy our hockey program. With this in mind we have developed the following policy to deter or deal with unwanted behaviour during Southpoint Minor Hockey functions. On ice functions and problems are dealt with through a set of OMHA guidelines but off-ice behaviour must be dealt with from within our own system.

Behaviour or actions detrimental to our system:

It’s the intention to prohibit Behaviour or actions detrimental to our system which may include but so as not to restrict the generality of the forgoing:
The use of profanity in a loud ,continuous unrelenting manner
Any confrontation with game officials, especially after a game in the dressing room area
Any confrontation with board member, arena attendant, or minor hockey volunteer such as coaches, convener mother’s auxiliary, gate person etc.
Team bench area is “OFF LIMITS” to all but team and game officials

While we can all get a bit emotional and “caught up” in a game we must remember the spirit of good sportsmanship and fair play that we are trying to pass on to our players.

If a situation arises that is ruled as Behaviour or actions detrimental to our system the person(s) involved will appear before a review board to consist of a minimum of 3 members of the Zero Tolerance committee. The situation will be reviewed and weighed on the evidence presented. The review board will then make a decision which may include suspension from Southpoint Minor Hockey activities for a period of time.
If an individual is given a suspension that he or she deems unsatisfactory than an appeal board consisting of a minimum of 3 non-board members will be assembled to hear the appeal. A fee of $25 is required for each appeal and will be refunded only if the decision of the Zero Tolerance committee is overturned. The appeal board will consist of individuals selected and listed by the Zero Tolerance committee prior to any incident. In no way can new members be appointed to the appeals committee to hear an appeal after a decision has been rendered by the Zero Tolerance committee. All appeals must be filed within 48 hours of the decision of the Zero Tolerance Committee decision is served.

Suspensions:

Minimum penalty may include a one week suspension but may include a permanent suspension from Southpoint Minor Hockey Association with NO refund of registration money depending on the severity of the infraction.
All suspensions will be filed so that consistency can be maintained. The Southpoint Minor Hockey Association's Zero Tolerance committee has listed only minimum suspensions in this document and may increase suspensions as the committee determines the situation warrants. Any repeat offender will receive more than the minimum suspension.
